Bellator 206 Results

Bellator 206 took place last night and we’ve got all the results for you below.

In the main event of the evening middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi successfully defended his title in a superfight with welterweight kingpin Rory MacDonald.

Mousasi, a former light-heavyweight champion, proved to be too big for MacDonald to handle in his 185lb debut, and also found himself repeatedly coming off second-best in the striking exchanges in the first round as his opponent worked effectively off the jab.

In the second round MacDonald opted to change things up, going for a takedown, but it was unsuccessful and Mousasi ended up on top and was soon making him pay on the mat too, bursting open the welterweight champ’s fragile nose – which has been broken several times in recent fights.

Managing to transition to full moun, Mousasi then began blasting down brutal elbow shots until the referee stepped in to award him the TKO victory with 3.23mins of the second round gone.

Meanwhile, in the co-main event of the evening, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson emerged victorious in a fourth encounter with his old rival Wanderlei Silva.

The two aging veterans picked their moments too battle it out, with brief frenzied exchanges of punches punctuating much slower spells of action, with Silva often opting to stay on the outside and circle away from ‘Rampage’ as he slowly stalked him.

Both men still had heat in their punches, but it was generally ‘Rampage,’ who was visibily bigger than his rival, who seemed to be landing with more authority.

In the second round ‘Rampage’ rocked Silva with a punch, but Silva survived, only to later be dropped by a thunderous right hand, with follow-up ground and pound being enough to convince the referee to wave the fight off, giving Jackson the TKO victory to even up the secore between them to 2-2.

Elsewhere, in the opening round of the welterweight grand-prix Douglas Lima emerged victorious in a battle of former champions against Andrey Koreshkov, seizing the win deep in the third round by way of rear-naked choke, while earlier rising star Aaron Pico continued to raise his stock with a first round TKO victory over Leandro Higo.
