Bellator Announces 10-Man Welterweight Tournament

Bellator have unveiled a major new 10-man welterweight tournament featuring many of the biggest 170lb stars on their roster, which will begin this fall at Bellator 205 on September 29th.

Leading the field of nine fighters so far announced for the event is current welterweight champion Rory MacDonald, while the man he just defeated to claim the title, Douglas Lima is also on-board too.

In fact, Lima will kick the tournament off by fighting another former 170lb champion Andrey Koreshkov at the Bellator 205 event.

Interestingly, MacDonald will headline that same show, but not in a tournament bout. Instead, he’ll be moving up to middleweight to fight Gegard Mousasi, but it’s believed he’ll then drop back down to welterweight to compete in the grand-prix at a later date.

Other notable fighters signed up for the 170lb tournament include rising Bellator star Michael ‘Venom’ Page, Lorenz Larkin and Jon Fitch, while the likes of Ed Ruth, Yarsolav Amosov and Neiman Gracie round out the line-up so far, with one fighter still to be confirmed, ensuring that this will definitely be an intriguing, must-watch addition to the MMA calendar.
