MMAAugust2013

August is upon us and so it’s time to look ahead and see what this month has in store for us – and rest assured there’s more than enough to keep you occupied here as the UFC really ramps up their schedule to celebrate the launch of FOX Sports 1.

Saturday, 3rd August: UFC 163: Aldo Vs Korean Zombie

We begin this coming weekend with the UFC’s latest trip to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil for UFC 163 which is headlined by a featherweight title fight between Jose Aldo and ‘The Korean Zombie’.

Not the strongest main card we’ve ever seen here, but the co-main event between light-heavyweight stars Lyoto Machida and Phil Davis is certainly worth paying attention to.

Saturday, 10th August: WSOF 4: Spong Vs DeAnda

World Series Of Fighting returns to action in August with kickboxer Tyrone Spong taking up headlines duties alongside Angel DeAnda.

Elsewhere on the card Tyson Griffin will make his WSOF debut against ‘JZ’ Cavalcante, ex-UFC pairing Jorge Santiago and Gerald Harris wage war, and even the promotion’s figurehead Ray Sefo straps on his gloves for a battle of the veterans against Dan Huckaba.

Saturday, 17th August: UFC Fight Night 26: Shogun Vs Sonnen (AKA UFC On FOX Sports 1)

The most hyped event of the month comes on August 17th as the UFC have the honor of presenting a live event on FOX Sports 1’s launch night with a light-heavyweight bout between Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua and Chael Sonnen topping the bill.

Co-main event status goes to the heavyweight scrap between two of the division’s top contenders Alistair Overeem and Travis Browne, while Urijah Faber takes on Iuri Alcantara and Matt Brown looks to keep his winning streak going against Mike Pyle.

Wednesday, 28th August: UFC Fight Night 27: Condit Vs Kampmann 2

There’s more live UFC action on FOX Sports 1 at the end of the month, this time on a Wednesday night which is set to be the promotion’s flagship night on the channel going forward.

Main event status goes to a welterweight rematch between Carlos Condit and Martin Kampmann which should be a good one, as will be the lightweight clash featuring Donald Cerrone Vs Rafael Dos Anjos.

Saturday, 31st August: UFC 164: Henderson Vs Pettis 2

Yes, believe it or not the UFC managed to shoe-horn in another event into an already packed August, and it’s arguably the most stacked one too as the long awaited lightweight rematch between current champion Ben Henderson and the last man to beat him, Anthony Pettis headline the show.

In addition to that Josh Barnett finally returns to the Octagon against Frank Mir, Chad Mendes locks horns with Clay Guida at 145lbs, Brandon Vera steps back up to heavyweight to face Ben Rothwell and Erik Koch goes up against Dustin Poirier.
