Al Iaquinta marked his return to action in style tonight at UFC Fight Night 108 with a knockout win over Diego Sanchez.
Round One:
Body kick attempt from Sanchez but it hits the groins and almost leads to an immediate stoppage, but Iaquinta says he’s ok to continue.
Patient start from both men here in the opening minute. Body punch for Iaquinta and just misses a knee coming in return from Sanchez.
Big right hook from Iaquinta drops Sanchez hard to the mat! Sanchez tries to reach for Iaquinta’s legs in desperation, but he sprawls and Sanchez gets back to his feet.
Sanchez hasn’t had time to clear the cobwebs though and Iaquinta just steps in and blasts him again with that right hand and Sanchez is floored for a second time.
With Sanchez dazed on the mat with his head hung low, Iaquinta stoops down and lands another right hand that seals the KO victory with just 2.11mins into the opening round of the fight!
Huge win for Iaquinta then to mark his comeback after a two-year layoff. As for Sanchez, he suffers the first KO loss of his career, coming less than a year after he was TKO’d for the first time by Joe Lauzon, and that’s got to be a big concern for the battle-worn star.
