Alexander Volkanovsi retained his featherweight title tonight at UFC 273 with a fourth round TKO victory after dominating the action in the main event.
Round One:
Volkanovski with a left hand and then a body kick. An early exchange and the champ lands another left. Now a leg kick from him and TKZ responds with strikes, only to be greeted by more in return.
Volkanovski winning the early striking exchanges here as he connects again. Two solid punches get through and trouble the Zombie.
Volkanovski works a takedown. TKZ back up but Volkanovski works the clinch position. Zombie with a punch but then gets dropped momentarily by a punch. After rising he then gets caught by a leg kick that knocks him off-balance again.
Round Two:
Zombie with a solid leg kick. He lands a left hand, but then throws a leg kick that’s checked.
Volkanovski operates nicely on the counter with a punch. Front kick from TKZ and then again soon afterwards.
Heavy right hand from the champ rocks Zombie but he’s able to survive and is then taken down. TKZ battles back up, but Volkanovski lands again and then trips him back to the mat.
Again Zombie rises up and Volkanovski continues to find the mark with more strikes. TKZ trying to fire back as they exchanges a few punches to end the round.
Round Three:
Head kick attempt from Volkanovski. Zombie lands a couple of nice punches that get the champ’s attention.
Right hand from Volkanovski. left and right from Zombie. TKZ with another flurry and lands the uppercut.
Solid jab for Volkanovski. Knee to the body in close for him and a low kick. Good right hand scores.
Inside leg kick for Volkanovski. Jab lands. Volkanovski avoids punches in return. Volk goes for a takedown, but TKZ does well to works his way back up against the cage.
Jab for Volkanovski. Now a one-two. Leg kick and a front kick to the body for him. Now an inside leg kick. Jab lands and then a good right. TKZ comes back with a short flurry.
One-two down the pipe for Volkanovski. Jab for TKZ. Punch to the body and then one upstairs from the Zombie. Inside leg kick off punches from Volkanovski. Volk lands a hook. Soon after Volkanovski lands another big right hook and drops him.
Ground and pound from Volkanovski and this fight is close to being finished, but there’s only 10 seconds remaining and TKZ survives, but that may not be in his best interests after this amount of punishment.
Round Four:
Front kick to the body and inside leg kick from Volkanovski. Now a solid punch. Clipping left hand and a leg kick.
Huge right cross for Volkanovski rocks the Zombie backwards and there’s more punches behind it which convinces the ref that it’s time to wave this fight off, handing the champion an impressive TKO victory at 0.45mins of Rd4.
