A heavyweight fight between Alistair Overeem and Walt Harris will headline UFC On ESPN 7 in Washington D.C. on December 7th.
The 39-year-old Overeem was last seen taking out Alexsei Oleinik by first round TKO in St. Petersburg, Russia back in April. That was his second win in a row, having also TKO’d Sergei Pavlovich in the first round late last year.
That’s helped Overeem fend off retirement talk as previously he’d suffered one of the most brutal KO losses in recent memory against Francis Ngannou and then was also TKO’d by Curtis Blaydes.
Now the No.7 ranked Overeem will fight the No.11 ranked harris, who coincidentally has also fought his way to back-to-back wins in recent times.
Like Overeem, he too defeated Aleksei Oleinik in his last Octagon outing, although his finish was even faster, taking just 12 seconds to knock him out last month.
Prior to that Harris had earned a first round TKO victory over Sergey Spivak. In actual fact, Harris’s current winning streak would extend to four fights if a split decision victory over Andrei Arlovski hadn’t been overturned to a no-contest ruling due to a failed drug test that led to a reduced four-month suspension when it was proven he had inadvertently taken a tainted supplement (his other victory came over Daniel Spitz).
Overeem vs. Harris joins a UFC On ESPN 7 card that will also feature Stefan Struve vs. Ben Rothwell and Claudia Gadelha going up against Cynthia Calvillo.
