Andrei Arlovski secured a unanimous decision victory tonight at UFC Fight Night 171 in a competitive fight with Philipe Lins.
Round One:
Inside leg kick from Arlovski. Body punch for Lins. Now an outside leg kick for Arlovski and Lins returns it.
Another leg kick for Lins. Arlovski presses forward with the double jab. Lins looking for a series of one-two’s, but not quite finding his range.
Right hand for Arlovski and then Lins returns fire with a combo of punches. Right hook for Arlovski and Lins lands a counter punch in return.
Inside leg kick for Arlovski. Body kick for Lins. Arlovski moves in with a left hand, but Lins blasts him with a nice counter.
Good left hook for Lins now. Inside leg kick for him. Body kick for Arlovski. Solid body punch for Arlovski. Two punches land hard for Lins.
Lins opts to clinch up now and presses Arlovski to the cage, but he moves quickly away. Spinning backfist from Arlovski lands, but Lins takes it well.
Inside leg kick for Arlovski and one for Lins now. Both men trade punches, with Lins still sharp on the counter.
Cuffing right hook from Lins off a leg kick. Arlovski misses a front kick upstairs but then lands an oblique kick.
Round Two:
Solid body kick from Lins. Double jab from Arlovski and Lins looks for a counter punch in response. Inside leg kick from Arlovski.
Hook from Arlovski but then a harder one on the counter from Lins. Inside leg kick again from Arlovski and a straight punch from Lins.
Lins targets the body punch with a punch and then just misses with a hook. They clinch up briefly and Arlovski throws an elbow as they separate.
Outside leg kick from Lins. Another leg kick for him. Front kick attempt from Arlovski misses. Jab for Arlovski and a right hand from Lins.
Exchange of hook at close range. head kick attempt from Arlovski is blocked. Now an inside leg kick. Inside leg kick for Lins, but it strays to the groin and forces a stoppage.
After a firm warning from referee Herb Dean they get back to it. Leg kick for Arlovski. Body kick from Lins. Arlovski steps into a straight left.
Again Arlovski steps in and lands the left. Front kick to the body from Arlovski and Lins fires back with punches.
In close range they both exchange blows and Lins looks threatening. Inside leg kick for Arlovski. Right hand for Lins at the end of the round.
Round Three:
leg kick for Arlovski. he tries for a head kick that misses. Hard right hook counter from Lins. Lins trying to land a left on the counter now.
Body kick for Lins. Jab for Arlovski and then a right hand behind it as Lins also connects. Inside leg kick again for Arlovski and follows it up with a front kick to the body.
Lins lands a few right hands at closer range. Arlovski with a head kick attempt and then an oblique kick.
They clinch up, but not for long, with arlovski landing as they move away. Quick exchange of punches in the center of the Octagon.
Inside leg kick for Arlovski. Lins tries to get hold of Arlovski’s neck, but lets it go. Inside leg kick from Lins now.
Arlovski with a short flurry in close. Nice right for Arlovski and ducks to avoid a counter. Right hand for Lins. He tries for a kick and slips on it, but gets straight back up.
Inside leg kick for Arlovski. Body kick for him. Inside leg kick again. Now a front kick to the body. He’s mixing things up late in the fight, going for an oblique kick now.
Decision:
Lins showed some promise tonight with good counter-punching, but in the end Arlovski showed his veteran skills to emerge with a unanimous decision victory (30-27 x2, 29-28).
