Andrei Arlovski Vs Frank Mir Earmarked For UFC 191

A heavyweight encounter between Andrei Arlovski and Frank Mir is being earmarked for UFC 191 on September 5th in Las Vegas according to the ‘UFC Tonight’ show, though the fight has not yet been signed up officially.

Arlovski has been the surprise success story in the division over the past year, with the veteran campaigner taking full advantage of a second chance to fight in the Octagon by racking up three victories in a row over Brendan Schaub, Antonio Silva and most recently Travis Browne.

With those last two of those wins coming by way of first round stoppage due to strikes, the 36 year-old has made it clear that he’s still a serious force to be reckoned with, and is now up to No.4 in the divisional rankings which means a win over Mir could put him in with a chance of title contention.

Mir is another 36 year-old veteran who’s been doing his best to prove he’s not over the hill. He’s also let his fists do the talking with KO wins over Antonio Silva and Todd Duffee banishing a four-fight losing streak prior to that and leaving him placed at No.10 on the rankings.

Despite having first entered the UFC at around the same time back in the early 2000’s, these two former champions have never fought before, so now seems like as good a time as any for them to battle it out in the Octagon.

If it does get officially booked for UFC 191, Arlovski Vs Mir may well end up as the co-main event for the show which is currently headlined by a flyweight title rematch between Demetrious Johnson and John Dodson.
