Anthony Pettis Wants To Fight Jose Aldo For Featherweight Title

Who’s next for featherweight champion Jose Aldo after his decision win over Frankie Edgar last night? Following the event Dana White revealed that an unexpected challenger has suddenly emerged.

“It didn’t cross my mind until he texted me, but it’s crossing my mind now,” White told the media when asked who he though Aldo should fight. “I like [Anthony] Pettis.”

Apparently Pettis contacted the UFC President directly after the fight to let him know he’s desperate to fight the champion and will move down to 145lbs to do so.

That sounds like a terrific fight to me. Pettis is coming off a very impressive win over Donald Cerrone on FOX last weekend and if it wasn’t for Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez’s arrival in the UFC he’d probably have got the next title shot at current lightweight champion Ben Henderson.

Pettis has just missed out on a few chances to fight for the 155lb title now and so it appears the former WEC champion is getting impatient for his opportunity to show what he can do at the highest level.

There’s not an undisputed No.1 contender at featherweight at this moment in time and Pettis Vs Aldo sounds like a dream fight given that they are two of the most dangerous and entertaining strikers in the UFC.
