Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira To Face Cheick Kongo At UFC 149

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will return to face fellow heavyweight contender Cheick Kongo at UFC 149 on July 21st.

The injury-prone Nogueira has just spent another spell on the treatment table recently after suffering a brutal arm injury at the hands of a kimura submission applied by Frank Mir back in December at UFC 140.

Now he’ll take on Kongo who’s also looking to bounce back after he was TKO’d in his last Octagon outing by a resurgent Mark Hunt inside the first round at UFC 144 in february.

UFC 149 will take place in Calgary and had been rumored to be the likely landing spot for featherweight champion Jose Aldo’s next fight, though yesterday Dana White claimed the he may now be moved to the UFC 147 event in Brazil to make up for that show losing out on a middleweight title fight between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen.

Instead there’s now talk that UFC 149 could potentially feature a light-heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Dan Henderson, but while White has admitted he likes the sound of that and would like to put the fight on sooner rather than later it’s purely speculation at this time.
