Bellator 141 took place last night and we’ve got all the results for you below.
In the main event of the evening Melvin Guillard’s Bellator debut did not go as planned with Brandon Girtz claiming a split decision victory (29-27, 28-29, 29-27).
Truthfully it was an easier fight for Girtz than the scorecards show as he largely controlled the action with a large amount of takedowns being the key to victory for him. After the fight Guillard’s camp revealed that the 32 year-old had broken his hand early in the second round of the fight.
Girtz now has a 5-2 record in the promotion, while Guillard’s slump continues with two losses in a row and only three wins in his last 11 fights covering spells in the UFC, WSOF and now Bellator.
In the co-main event Patricky ‘Pitbull’ Freire outpointed Saad Awad (30-27 x3) in a fight that was light on action, while Justin Wren made a successful, if sloppy start to his Bellator campaign with a decision win over Josh Burns (30-27, 30-26 x2) with both men running out of gas long before the final buzzer.
In the main card opener former Strikeforce champion Marloes Coenen made a welcome return to the Bellator cage with a typically slick display of skills on the mat against Alrene Biencowe, resulting in a second round armbar submission finish.
