Ben Rothwell continued the UFC Fight Night 68 main card theme of swift finishes with a first round submission stoppage against Matt Mitrione in the co-main event.
Round One:
No touch of the gloves from Mitrione as they start. Mitrione throws a left hand but misses. Rothwell lands a leg kick. Mitrione light on his feet and lands a punch.
Left and a right from Mitrione. Rothwell presses forward and finds a home for a right. Nice one-two combination from Mitrione.
Mitrione lurches forward with a punch. Rothwell with a brief flurry now, but Mitrione weathers the storm.
Kick to the body from Mitrione. Right hand lands. Mitrione attempts a takedown, but it’s a little clumsy and Rothwell is able to defend it nicely and with both men still on their knees he sinks in a guillotine choke. He drops on top of Mitrione with it and it’s immediately tight enough that Mitrione taps quickly with both hands.
Good stuff from Rothwell who gets the submission victory at 1.54mins of the first round.
