Beneil Dariush Defeats Carlos Diego Ferreira By Decision At UFC 179

Baneil Dariush was able to get the better of Carlos Diego Ferreira on the mat tonight in Brazil at UFC 179 as he picked up a unanimous decision victory on the main card opener on pay-per-view.

Round One:

Daruish takes the center of the Octagon and takes a leg kick from Ferreira. Dariush with a couple of left hands. He backs up and then unleashes a head kick that’s blocked.

Ferreira with a body kick. Ferreira with a right hand on the counter. Dariush with a solid kick to the body. He throws a couple of punches and then throws a kick over the top that glances his opponent’s head.

Dariush comes up short with a superman punch. Ferreira pushing back with punches of his own. Very hard leg kick connects for Dariush.

Couple of punches for Dariush then he moves his head out of range as Ferreira attempts to counter. Ferreira comes forward and initiates a clinch, looking for a takedown, but his opponent stays upright. Dariush reverses against the cage. Both men landing knees to the body and then Dariush backs up and away as Ferreira tries a head kick attempt that misses.

Body kick for Dariush and Ferreira responds with punches. Good flurry from him. They engage in close again and Dariush throws Ferreira to the mat. Ferreira looking to scramble from his back. Dariush ok for now, but Ferreira is hunting for submissions and attempts a leg lock, but Dariush is ok and makes it to the end of the round.

Round Two:

Dariush again taking the center of the Octagon and Ferreira tries a spinning kick up high that misses. Dariush sets up a takedown attempt with a punch and he’s able to work his opponent to his knees. However, Ferriera stands back up with Dariush still locked onto his back. He presses Ferreira up against the cage and lands a knee to the leg, then they break apart.

Ferreira stumbles to the mat, but gets right back up. Dariush with the jab and Ferreira with a high kick. Solid body kick for Dariush.

Dariush catches a leg and is looking for a takedown. He manages to get Ferreira on his back. Ferreira not as active off his back this time offensively, but does suddenly go for an omaplata, but Dariush shakes it off and gets control on top again.

Working in Ferreira’s guard now as the round enters the final 30 seconds. Dariush backs away and Ferreira stays on the mat until the horn sounds.

Round Three:

Ferreira with a kick and a couple of punches. He tries a head kick, but comes up short. He suddenly barges forward with a flurry of strikes, some of which connect. He’s pushing the pace in this third round.

He backs Dariush up against the cage. Dariush reverses and looks to engage himself, but Ferreira is being the more aggressive with strikes here. Dariush with a throw attempt and the two fighters roll and scramble before Dariush ends back on top again where he wants to be.

Dariush attempting some elbows from inside Ferreira’s guard. Dariush attempting to pass and gets to half guard now. He has to back away and then comes back into the same position again. He methodically works his way to side control and Ferreira turns and gets to his knees against the cage and stands.

Dariush still on him though staying heavy and grinds down the remaining moments of the fight clinched up.


Dariush definitely had the better moments in this fight with good control on top and that rightly earns him a deserved unanimous decision victory (30-27 x3).
