A UFC 258 main card fight between Bobby Green and Jim Miller has been pulled from the UFC 258 PPV after Green collapsed backstage following his weight cut on Friday.
Green had been the last person to weigh-in for the event and had successfully made the 156lb limit for his bout with Miller, but soon after his health took a turn for the worse.
“Bobby Green just collapsed back there,” White told reporters at a media scrum after the weigh-ins. “Doctors are looking at him. They’re trying to re-hydrate him right now.”
Green himself later explained what had happened after noting that weight-cutting was “one of three hills” he had to get over in order to compete (the other two being giving blood and getting on a plane since he hates needles and heights).
“So to be clear I have air pockets in my lungs, I guess, and my kidneys failed,” Green wrote. “I messed my back up in training. I thought it was just pain from that.”
Green vs. Miller had in itself been a replacement fight on the main card for Pedro Munhoz vs. Jimmie Rivera, which was scrapped earlier in the week.
Now another preliminary card bout between Brian Kelleher and Ricky Simon will be promoted to the pay-per-view portion of the show instead.
