Brandon Moreno Submits Louis Smolka In First Round At UFC Fight Night 96

Short-notice newcomer Brandon Moreno made a good first impression tonight at UFC Fight Night 96, tapping out Louis Smolka with a guillotine choke mid-way through the opening round.

Round One:

Smolka takes the center of the Octagon and throws a high kick, but Moreno immediately returns fire with a flurry of strikes, targeting the body.

Moreno with an early takedown now. Elbows from the bottom from Smolka as Moreno tries to work in full guard. Moreno finally finds some space to get off a few solid shots, but then Smolka is able to find space to stand and immediately looks for a takedown attempt of his own.

However, Moreno has other ideas and he looks for a guillotine choke as they drop to the mat. It looks tight, but Smolka rolls and it looks like he might get away.

Moreno isn’t willing to let this submission go though and he readjusts and cranks harder than ever. Smolka is trapped here and with no way out he’s eventually forced to tap with 2.23mins on the clock, handing Moreno a big, unexpected win in his short-notice UFC debut!
