Cain Velasquez Vs ‘Bigfoot’ Silva Rematch Plus JDS Vs Overeem Set For UFC 160

A heavyweight double-bill has been announced for UFC 160 on Memorial Day Weekend in May.

First up, Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva has earned himself a rematch with Cain Velasquez a year removed from their last fight where he was soundly beaten by the man who’s since gone on to reclaim the heavyweight title.

Since then Silva has rebounded with big wins over two of the division’s leading contenders in Travis Browne and Alistair Overeem, and that’s been deemed enough to secure him a second chance.

Speaking of Alistair Overeem, he will have a chance to redeem himself after that disappointing loss to ‘Bigfoot’ when he takes on former champion Junior Dos Santos in what’s likely to be billed as a No.1 contender bout to establish the next challenger for the winner of the main event.

Fans are likely to have mixed feelings about this announcement. One one hand Velasquez Vs ‘Bigfoot’ 2 is not a fight that anyone was calling for given how dominant the champion was in their last meeting, but due to a lack of suitable alternatives at this moment in time the UFC’s been forced to go ahead with it anyway.

On the other hand, in Dos Santos Vs Overeem they have a genuine grudge match that also has the potential to be an exciting stand-up war, so that could prove to be the fight that really captures people’s attention here, while the fact that the winners of these two bouts are probably going to end up fighting next adds extra value to the proceedings.
