Cain Velasquez Vs Fabricio Werdum II Set For UFC 207

A heavyweight rematch between former champions Cain Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum will go down at UFC 207 in Las Vegas on December 30th.

These two first met at UFC 188 in Mexico City in June of last year at a time when Velasquez was still holding the title. However, it was Werdum who would emerge victorious that night as he got the better of an uncharacteristically lethargic Velasquez on the feet and then finished him with a third round guillotine choke.

After almost a year on the sidelines, Werdum lost his title earlier this year after being KO’d by Stipe Miocic at UFC 198, though he’s since rebounded with a unanimous decision win in a rematch with Travis Browne at UFC 203.

Velasquez also had a long layoff due to injury woes, but looked more like his old self in his return fight with Travis Browne at UFC 200 in July, TKO’ing him in the first round.

Werdum and Velasquez are currently the No.1 and No.2 contenders in the division respectively, so the winner of this fight will surely go on to fight Miocic for the title in 2017.

With Velasquez Vs Werdum II in place, the end of year UFC 207 event is really starting to take shape, with a woman’s bantamweight fight between Amanda Nunes and Ronda Rousey set to headline the show, while the likes of Johny Hendricks Vs Neil Magny and Matt Brown Vs Tarec Saffiedine are also officially confirmed.
