Caio Borralho was able to get the better of Abus Magomedov tonight at UFC Fight Night 231 to earn a unanimous decision victory.
Round One:
Side kick to the leg from Borralho. Magomedov looks for a punch to the body but misses. Inside leg kick for him now though. Borralho attempts a head kick.
Borralho steps in nicely for a 1-2. He lands a jab. Magomedov with a kick. Another high kick attempted by Borralho. Low kicks exchanged.
Glancing one-two lands for Magomedov. Front kick to the body from him. Push kick from Borralho. Borralho drives into a takedown, but it’s well stuffed and as he gets back upright a head kick whistles just over his head from Magomedov.
Magomedov lands a couple of punches. Good one-two from Borralho, but he got poked in the eye for his troubles and that forces a time-out to give him time to recover.
Borralho is ok to continue after a minute and they get back to it. Magomedov with reaching punch. He misses on a head kick attempt. Borralho pressing forward with purpose now, but the round ends before he can get going offensively.
Round Two:
Calf kick from Borralho. Body kick for Magomedov. A punch to the head and then body work from Magomedov. Borralho light on his feet then steps in nicely with a crisp jab. Borralho thinks about a spinning backfist, but aborts on it.
Solid counter-hook lands for Borralho. Now a stiff left hand from him. He complains about an eyepoke, but fights on.
Body kick for Magomedov. He lands another. Now a leg kick. Jab for Borralho. Check hook from him. Now a solid punch to the body.
Right hand for Magomedov. Now a body kick. Borralho lands his own body kick. Another kick to the midsection from him.
leg kick from Borralho. A couple of punches off the guard from Magomedov. Body punch for him. He tries a spinning back-fist but misses.
Jumping knee to the body for Borralho. He lands a crisp jab.
Round Three:
Both exchange punches in the center of the Octagon for a moment. Stepping punch from Borralho. He connects with a jab now.
Head kick attempt from Borralho is blocked. Body kick for Borralho. Now a jab and Magomedov fires off a couple of punches in return. Nice jab from Borralho again.
Glancing hook for Borralho. Now a straight left. Swatting right hook from the Brazilian. Solid elbow strike for Borralho and Magomedov walks backwards and takes a deep breath, clearly troubled by that. Borralho puts on a bit of pressure and Magomedov is wilting here.
Jumping knee to the head lands from Borralho. The Brazilian gets him to the mat. Magomedov attempting to stand and Borralho gets on his back to keep him down.
There’s a scramble now as Borralho gets the body lock in and hunts for the rear-naked choke. Magomedov fighting it off for now though and Borralho settles for just landing a few light punches in the final seconds.
Decision:
Borralho stayed patient in the first couple of rounds and then turned up the heat a little in the third to gain the upper-hand and rock Magomedov, helping to ensure he emerges with a unanimous decision victory (30-27, 29-28 x2).
