Recently UFC interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit indicated that he had a desire to avenge an old loss to Martin Kampmann, but after this past weekend’s ‘UFC On FX 3’ event in Florida he was keen to stress that fighting the current champion GSP is still his No.1 priority.
“Georges is the guy I’ve got my eye on and as far as I know he’s going to be ready to go in November,” Condit tells Fuel TV’s Ariel Helwani.
There is still some talk that St.Pierre may not be ready in time to fight on November 17th as he continues his recovery following knee surgery, and if it came to it Condit says he would be willing to fight someone else in the mean time even though it’s not his preferred option.
“I don’t make the match-ups. If the UFC wanted me to fight someone else, you know, they are the boss. If they ask me to fight I would be up for it. They want me to fight Georges St.Pierre and that’s who I want to fight as well.”
From the looks of things the UFC are covering all their bases as not only have they tentatively scheduled GSP Vs Condit for the UFC 154 event in November, but they’ve also put a No.1 contender bout bout between Martin Kampmann and Johny Hendricks on the bill too.
That means if GSP does end up having to cancel then they’ll have two suitable opponents for Condit lined up and waiting to take his place. With all the injury woes the UFC is currently suffering from that’s smart planning.
