Chad Mendes Vs Ricardo Lamas Set To Headline UFC Fight Night 63

A featherweight match-up between Chad Mendes and Ricardo Lamas will headline UFC Fight Night 63 in Virginia on April 4th.

This will be Mendes’ first fight since losing for a second time to Jose Aldo – the only man to beat him in his 18 fight career so far.

Despite the loss ‘Money’ remains rooted to the No.1 contender spot in the division, but like his team-mate Urijah Faber at bantamweight, he’s now in an awkward position and will likely have to notch up another few wins before being considered for another chance to fight the champion unless the belt changes hands in the mean time.

Lamas has also had an unsuccessful shot at Aldo’s title back in February of last year and has since notched up a further two victories.

That leaves him with a 6-1 run in the Octagon, 15-3 for his career overall and ranked No.3 in the 145lb division heading into this fight.

A number of other fights have been announced for UFC Fight Night 63, with Bobby Green set to fight Jorge Masvidal in the co-main event, while Dustin Poirier heads to 155lbs to face Diego Ferreira, former TUF winner Michael Chiesa squares up to Mitch Clarke and Liz Carmouche battles Lauren Murphy.

Over the years I've watched the UFC develop into the powerhouse it is today, organizations like PRIDE, Strikeforce and WEC rise and fall, and Bellator emerge as a new force on the MMA landscape. Throughout it all I've remained captivated by the sport and I'm excited to cover what comes next here on MMA Insight.
