Chael Sonnen Contemplates Retirement After Convincing Loss To Jon Jones

Following another unsuccessful attempt to achieve his dream of winning a UFC title, Chael Sonnen hinted that at the age of 36 he was now on the verge of retirement.

“I’m going to think it through,” Sonnen said of his future in his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan inside the Octagon. “I’m not going to be one of the guys to hang around. If there’s not a road to the title then this sport isn’t for me. I believe that was probably my last opportunity.”

That falls in line with what Sonnen’s said in the past about his motivations for fighting, and later at the post-fight press conference he seemed to be sticking with that train of thought.

“What am I going to do? I’m terrible. What are you going to do? Put me against Wanderlei Silva? There’s nothing for me to do around here,” Sonnen told the assembled media.

If this was to be Sonnen’s last fight then he doesn’t need to fear too much for his future as the ‘gift for the gab’ he’s shown over the past few years en-route to three unsuccessful title attempts has resulted in him being heralded as one of the sport’s biggest personalities and has paved the way for a future as a TV personality for FOX.
