Chael Sonnen Says He’s Been Offered Fights With Top 10 Light-Heavyweights

It’s still not exactly clear what’s going to come next for UFC star Chael Sonnen after his latest unsuccessful bid to take the middleweight title from Anderson Silva, but it appears he’s got a number of options.

Sonnen has been mulling over the possibility of moving up to the light-heavyweight division and during an appearance on Spike TV’s ‘MMA Uncensored Live’ show this week Sonnen revealed that the powers that be have suggested several potential opponents in that weight class if that’s what he decides to do.

“I’ve had a couple of names thrown my way,” Sonnen admitted during his interview.

While he was cagey about who they are he did confirm that they were, “top 10 guys.”

He also said that three of those top 10, Lyoto Machida, Alexander Gustaffson and Phil Davis hadn’t been discussed.

I wouldn’t imagine the UFC would offer him a fight with Jon Jones straight off the bat, so my hunch is that they might be suggesting someone like Forrest Griffin, or perhaps Rashad Evans if he stays at 205lbs.

Interestingly, Dana White also noted after the UFC 149 pre-fight press conference that Sonnen is also in-demand outside of the Octagon too, with FOX apparently being interested in offering him some kind of television deal.
