The Ultimate Fighter Brazil season 3 coaches and sworn enemies Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva’s are now set to settle their differences on a pay-per-view card later this year.
According to Dana White, the fight will take place on the same card as Chris Weidman’s next middleweight title defense which is believed to be against Vitor Belfort and is currently pencilled in to take place in either May or July in Las Vegas.
Sonnen and Silva have been embroiled in a war of words for a few years now since Sonnen first made derogatory remarks about Brazil, but the bad blood between them has since spilled over on the set of TUF: Brazil 3 where they are serving as coaches, with reports earlier this weeks suggesting the two stars had actually started brawling before being pulled apart.
Exact details of the fight are still under wraps, but White revealed yesterday that it took place during a weigh-in session on the show while six cameras were rolling, and that as a result of what happened a number of people who were involved have been punished.
TUF: Brazil 3 is set to start airing on the UFC’s new ‘Fight Pass’ subscription service in March and orginally it was believed that the plan was to also air the eventual fight between the two coaches on it too, but it seems that the UFC has had a change of heart and it’s not hard to see why.
Given the hype and drama surrounding the fight, this could be one of the biggest non-title fights of the year, and at a time when the UFC has a number of it’s most high-profile stars sitting on the sidelines due to injuries and long lay-offs, this is exactly the kind of thing they need to focus on in order to help generate pay-per-view buys.
