A lightweight title showdown between current champion Charles Oliveira and Dustin Poirier has been announced for UFC 269 on December 11th.
This will be Oliveira’s first title defence since winning the vacant title with a TKO stoppage victory over Michael Chandler at UFC 262 back in May.
Title glory was a long time coming for ‘Do Bronx’, who is now riding a nine-fight winning streak, during which he’s not only defeated other quality opponents like Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee, but also smashed multiple UFC records along the way too, including now holding the record for the most finishes in company history (17), most submissions (14) and most Performance Of The Night bonuses (11).
He’s going up against a dangerous opponent though in Poirier, whose confidence and star-power are at an all-time high right now after earning back-to-back wins over Conor McGregor this year.
In fact, Poirier has only lost once in his last 10 UFC fights, and that was in a title challenge against the great Khabib Nurmagomedov back in 2019, while his victories included defeating the likes of Max Holloway, Dan Hooker, Eddie Alvarez and Justin Gaethje.
Oliveira vs. Poirier would join an end-of-year UFC 269 card that already has two other title fights attached to it, with Amanda Nunes expected to defend her bantamweight title against Julianna Pena, while flyweight champion Brandon Moreno will also head into a trilogy battle with Deiveson Figueiredo.
