A major middleweight fight between former champion Chris Weidman and Gegard Mousasi has been announced for UFC 210 in Buffalo, New York on April 8th.
After a perfect 13-0 run at the start of his career, Weidman has now suffered back-to-back defeats, beginning with a fourth round TKO loss to Luke Rockhold at the tail end of 2015.
Weidman then returned to action against Yoel Romero at UFC 205 in November, but suffered a brutal KO defeat courtesy of a flying knee in the third round.
So, the 32 year-old really needs a win to arrest that slide, but that won’t be easy to accomplish against the in-form Mousasi, who compiled a four-fight winning streak in 2016.
Thales Leites, Thiago Santos, Vitor Belfort and Uriah Hall have all tasted defeat against the 31 year-old Mousasi during that period, signaling that perhaps the No.5 ranked middleweight contender is finally ready to make a serious title push in the division.
So far, Weidman Vs Mousasi is the only fight to have been announced for the show in Buffalo, which will mark the third pay-per-view event the promotion have hosted in the state of New York in the space of six months after the sport of mixed martial arts became legal there in 2016.
