Claudia Gadelha vs. Alexa Grasso Targeted For UFC 246

A women’s strawweight fight between Claudia Gadelha and Alexa Grasso has been targeted for UFC 246 in Las Vegas on January 18th.

Gadelha had been scheduled to fight Cynthia Calvillo next at UFC On ESPN 7 in December, but a torn ligament and ruptured tendon in her ankle forced her out of that fight and she now returns to action a month later instead.

Gadelha comes into this fight off the back of a unanimous decision win over Randa Markos at UFC 236 back in July.

However, that only keeps up a current trend of alternating between wins and losses for the Brazilian, who has also secured wins over Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Carla Esparza in the past couple of years, interspersed with losses to Jessica Andrade and Nina Ansaroff.

As for Grasso, she’s experienced a similar run of form, with the difference being that she’s actually coming off a loss against Carla Esparza, albeit only by a majority decision ruling.

Grasso’s own pattern of a win followed by a loss includes victories over the likes of Heather Jo Clark, Randa Markos and Karolina Kowalkiewicz, while she’s also been defeated by Felice Herrig and Tatiana Suarez.

As things stand UFC 246 doesn’t have a headline fight, though Conor McGregor had indicated that he intended to fight on the card, with the rumor being that it could potentially be against Donald Cerrone.
