A women’s strawweight fight between Claudia Gadelha and Carla Esparza has been announced for UFC 225 on June 9th in Chicago.
Gadelha will be looking to get back to winning ways at the event after suffering a loss to Jessica Andrade last time out at UFC Fight Night 117 in September of last year.
That defeat left the 29-year-old with an overall 4-3 record in the UFC to date, though her other two losses had come on the scorecards in closely contested fights with Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
As such, Gadelha remains one of the division’s best fighters and is currently ranked at No.3.
Now she’ll face a former champion in Carla Esparza, who is coming in off two victories over Maryna Moroz and Cynthia Calvillo.
Overall, the 30-year-old Esparza is 4-2 in the UFC so far and currently holds the No.6 spot in the divisional rankings.
Gadelha Vs Esparza is the first and only fight to be announced for the UFC 225 pay-per-view event so far, though Yoel Romero’s manager Malki Kawa has suggested that his fighter could also compete on that card, though whether it would be in a title fight against Robert Whittaker may depend on whether the champion is going to be fit in time after recent injury and illness woes.
