As he emerged from his New York hotel room yesterday, Conor McGregor found time to speak to Adam Glyn about how his leg break recovery is going and also his thoughts on the scuffle with Machine Gun Kelly at the VMA’s this past weekend.
“I feel like I could kick right now,” McGregor told the Adam’s Apple YouTube channel. “I honestly feel like I could kick right now, but I’m just got to listen to the doctors and listen to the people that guided me. That’s what I’ve done so far. I’ve committed myself to the work. I’m back on the feet. It feels so good to be back on the feet.
“You know, my son…I didn’t see my children for this training camp, I left them at home. So, when I left my son, I was jumping 360 flips, and then, the next time he sees me, I’m in this seat and I can’t walk. That was kind of playing on me a little bit,” McGregor admitted.
“Then as the weeks have gone by and I’m getting better and stronger, my son and my children are seeing. My son is the older one. He can understand a bit more. My other two are still a bit too young. But (my son) can see the work I put in. He can see the rewards and I know that’s going to rub off well on him. He’s going to be able to see his father. He put the work in. You rise back to your feet.”
McGregor also acknowledged that his recovery from the injury has been a mental battle as well as a physical one.
“I was upset for a little while,” McGregor said. “It’s not been easy. There’s been a few ups and downs on this. It’s probably one of the wildest things that’s ever happened to me. It’s not been full smooth sailing but I got through it. I’ve had my family and my close team by my side. We’re getting there. It’s still a long way. I don’t want to get too ahead of myself. I feel like I can kick now. I’m not advised to kick yet but I’m going to get back, man.
“You think a broken leg (or) a broken bone is going to stop me? Think again.”
Meanwhile, despite being caught on camera throwing a drink and attempting to punch Machine Gun Kelly at the VMA’s at the weekend, McGregor has sought to squash the beef with the rapper by insisting that he has no bad blood with him and his partner, movie star Megan Fox.
“I’ll tell you what happened, man,” McGregor said when asked about the situation. “I’ll tell you what it is: I’m free here in New York City. I’m back in New York. I got to go to the Barclay Center again. I got to present an award. I was just going to have a good time, and that’s it. All love, all love.
“It’s all good, man. Come to the next fight, come watch me perform, any time. I’ll perform, no problem. Everyone’s more than welcome to come to my fights and come to the shows.
“No beef, I don’t even know the guy. I don’t know him. Who is he? He used to be at the fights. Megan’s been at the fights, years! So I know Megan.
“I don’t know the guy. There’s no problem. Come to the fights, no problem, man.”
