Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino officially vacated her Invicta FC featherweight title yesterday and immediately called out UFC 145lb champion Germaine de Randamie.
Up until this point ‘Cyborg’ has had one foot in both the UFC and Invicta, but it seems she’s now ready to leave the all-female promotion behind as she goes in pursuit of becoming a UFC champion.
Her first order of business is to take on newly crowned featherweight champion De Randamie, with ‘Cyborg’ targeting UFC 214 on July 29th in Anaheim, California as her preferred date for the showdown.
Aside from a loss in her first ever fight, ‘Cyborg’ has never been defeated in her 19-fight career in the sport, including two victories in the Octagon so far against Leslie Smith and Lina Lansberg.
When you also factor in that all but two of her career victories have come by way of knockout it’s not hard to see why she’s considered the most dominant and feared fighter in all of woman’s MMA.
‘The Iron Lady’ De Randamie has a vast amount of experience in combat sports, however, with her 7-3 MMA record being just the tip of the iceberg for the 32-year-old, who has also been a champion in both kickboxing and muay-thai.
It’ll be interesting to see whether the UFC grants ‘Cyborg’s’ wish to fight at UFC 214, or whether they may prefer to have her be part of the traditionally heavily-stacked UFC 213 event earlier that same month in Las Vegas during ‘International Fight Week’.
