Dan Hooker Submits Marc Diakiese At UFC 219

Dan Hooker got hte better of Marc Diakiese tonight at UFC 219, forcing him to tap out early in the third round due to a guillotine choke.

Round One:

Cautious opening from both fighters. Hooker tries for a body kick and Diakiese almost catches it fully. Side kick for Diakiese.

Jumping, spinning body kick from Diakiese doesn’t land. Low leg kick for Hooker. Both fighters a little off on their range at this stage in the fight.

Diakiese repeatedly going for side kicks to the knee, but often coming up short. He does one and then transitions into a spinning kick off of it, but it doesn’t land effectively.

Solid jab for Hooker. Aborted spinning kick attempt from Diakiese. Clipping right hand lands for Diakiese. Body kick for Diakiese. Spinning head kick misses.

Diakiese catches a kick, but can’t get Hooker down from it. Soon after he catches another kick, but again can’t work it into a takedown attempt.

High body kick for Hooker. Now he goes in for a takedown attempt and lands it against the cage. Diakiese gets back up just as the round is ending.

Round Two:

Hooker with a front kick to the body, but Diakiese catches it and lands a solid leg kick off of it. Diakiese steps in and misses with the right, but lands the left.

Short right hand for Diakiese. Now a left. Straight right for Hooker. Now Hooker gets the clinch and pushes Diakiese into the cage. Diakiese briefly reverses the position, but Hooker gets it back quickly.

Back to striking range they go. Nice knee to the body from Diakiese. Hooker initiates a takedown and gets it. He takes Diakiese’s back. 90 seconds to go and Hooker is slowly working towards a rear-naked choke attempt.

Diakiese remains patient and in the final 20 seconds he suddenly manages to twist towards his opponent and end up on top.

Round Three:

Leg kick for Hooker. Diakiese launching vicious right hands and connecting. Again Diakiese landing with the right and the left gets in there too. Much more urgency from him now.

However, that costs him dearly as he overcommits on a punch and tries to transition into a takedown instead, going to his knees in the process. That leaves his neck exposed and Hooker seizes on it with a tight guillotine choke submission that swiftly forces Diakiese to tap out with 42 seconds of the third round gone.
