A strawweight title fight between current champion Weili Zhang and former titleholder Joanna Jedrzejczyk appears to be on the verge of being made as a rivalry between the two starts to build.
Recently Zhang had hinted that the Polish star might be her next title challenger and Jedrzejczyk has since confirmed that she’s more than up for the challenge.
“Anywhere, anytime,” Jedrzejczyk told the South China Morning Post. “Bangkok, Sri Lanka, Warsaw, Toronto, it doesn’t matter where. For me, it doesn’t matter. I will make my way. Even if we have to take a canoe, I will make it to China and beat the s*** out of her.”
Zhang has since responded to that in a cool, calm and collected manner that suggests she’s not intimidated by her.
“She seems very angry? Don’t worry she will calm down,” Zhang wrote on Instagram. “I am ready now. Call my manager or call Dana White. I’m ready.”
After reading the exchanges between the two, Dana White made it clear he’s enthusiastic about the match-up.
“This is going to be a VERY fun fight,” White wrote.
Jedrzejczyk is coming off two wins in a row in the division she once ruled, having defeated both Tecia Torres and Michelle Waterson by decision, though inbetween times she did suffer a a decision loss to Valentina Shevchenko up at flyweight.
As for Zhang, she is currently four-fights undefeated in the UFC, and in total holds a 20-1 record, with her only loss coming in her first ever professional bout six years ago.
