According to Dana White, WWE superstar and former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar has decided to hang up his gloves for good, despite repeated speculation about a return to the Octagon to fight Daniel Cormier.

“Brock Lesnar told me he’s done. He’s retiring,” White revealed to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto. “We’re going to move in another direction with Cormier.”

Cormier had been expected to fight Lesnar since the former champion entered the Octagon to challenge ‘DC’ after watching the star lift the title following a victory over Stipe Miocic back at UFC 226 in July of last year.

However, despite Cormier’s enthusiasm for the match-up, Lesnar has repeatedly put the fight on the backburner since then to continue pursuing his career in the WWE and now appears to have made up his mind to just call it quits altogether.

Lesnar’s last fight was back at UFC 200 in July of 2016 when he returned after many years to defeat Mark Hunt by unanimous decision. Afterwards he declared it was the most fun he’d had in a long time, but the win was soon rescinded and his reputation damaged after it emerged he’d tested positive for performance enhancing drugs, resulting in a one year suspension.

With Lesnar now out of the picture, the current heavyweight champion Cormier is now in need of a new opponent and it’s believed that a rematch with Miocic could now be in the works.
