Georges St-Pierre recently indicated that he’d be interested in fighting the winner of the upcoming lightweight title fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor, which takes place at UFC 229 on October 6th, but UFC President Dana White has now poured cold water on the idea of the former champion fighting at 155lbs.
“I’m interested in Georges St-Pierre coming back at 170 [pounds],” White told The BBC MMA Show. “Not at 155 pounds.
“He was the 170-pound champion, he moved up to 185 pounds to take on Michael Bisping and put in his agreement that he would absolutely defend the title at 185 and then just dumped the title,” he explained. “I’m not interested.
“Georges St-Pierre is looking for one off fights where he can make a lot of money, which it’s smart, that’s what he should do but we’re not interested in that.”
It remains to be seen if St-Pierre would be willing to return to fight at welterweight, where Tyron Woodley currently rules the roost, but if he is then the plan remains for him to compete UFC 231 in Toronto, Canada on December 8th.
However, White is convinced that we will ever see the decorated former champion set foot in the Octagon again.
“I don’t know. He’s not too excited about fighting or defending his title or anything like that. I don’t know if he’ll ever fight again.”
