UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland has threatened to down tools due to being unhappy with the money he’s currently making in the promotion, but Dana White has no interest in discussing the issue due to the star having only recently signed a new deal with the promotion.
“When isn’t Sean Strickland upset about something or doesn’t have something to say?” White said after the final episode of the Contender Series last night.
“Sean Strickland just signed a new contract in May. He just signed a new contract in May. He signed a new deal. Was that like, four months ago? Five months ago? He signed a new deal. And from what I hear, the number he’s putting out there, it’s not true. The number that he claimed he made is not true.
“It is what it is. If we were in a situation where he’d been under the same contract for a year, two years — he just signed a contract in May. He got a whole new deal in May. So it is what it is.”
Strickland had previously claimed that he wouldn’t fight again until this matter is resolved, but with the UFC giving no indication that they are willing to negotiate it now remains to be seen whether the 35-year-old will back down or risk being stripped of his title at some point in the future.
