After watching Dominick Reyes demolish Chris Weidman at UFC On ESPN 6 from Octagon-side this past weekend in Boston, Daniel Cormier believes ‘The Devastator’ is a good match-up for his old rival Jon Jones.
Cormier had previously cast doubt on middleweight champion Israel Adesanya’s chances of defeating Jones due to his size, but he believes the same factor could make Reyes a worthy challenger.
“I think it’s a good matchup,” Cormier said post-fight. “Dominick Reyes has a good body. He showed he can stop takedowns. I think it will be a great fight between those two. I believe this kid is the real deal. He’s done everything right up to this point. I’m really impressed with Dominick Reyes.”
So much so that DC believes that a fight between Jones and Reyes should take place next.
“He’s healthy after that big fight and Jones just got through his most recent court problems or whatever it was — so why not let him fight?. (Reyes) has the one key thing that has proven to give Jones pause, and that’s size.”
Meanwhile, despite some people still being eager to see a trilogy fight between Jones and Cormier, the former champion is currently homing in on a different trilogy encounter with current heavyweight titleholder Stipe Miocic instead.
