Light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will rematch Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson at UFC 206 on December 10th in Toronto, Canada.
News of the match-up arrived on the same day that it was announced that interim champion Jon Jones legal team have postponed a hearing this coming Monday with the Nevada State Athletic Commission regarding his failed drug test prior to UFC 200.
This will be the second time that Cormier and Johnson have stepped into the Octagon together, with ‘DC’ emerging victorious by a third round rear-naked choke the first time around back in May of last year to claim the vacant 205lb title.
Since then, the 37 year-old Cormier has successfully defended the belt against both Alexander Gustafsson and Anderson Silva.
‘Rumble’ has compiled a destructive three-fight winning streak since the loss to Cormier, taking out Jimi Manuwa, Ryan Bader and Glover Teixeira, all by KO, to earn the 32 year-old another shot at the title.
Cormier Vs Johnson is the highest profile fight to be announced for the card in Canada so far, though it’s not yet been officially confirmed as the main event of the evening.
There had been talk that former UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre would headline the show, but so far his long-awaited comeback remains on-hold, with the rumor being that the UFC are reluctant to pay the star what he’s demanding financially.
