Demetrious Johnson KO’s Joseph Benavidez At UFC On FOX 9

A spectacular first round knockout ensured that the UFC’s flyweight title remained firmly around the waist of Demetrious Johnson tonight in his rematch with Joseph Benavidez at UFC On FOX 9.

Round One

Benavidez kicks low to the leg to start and Johnson responds in kind. Benavidez presses forward with a few strikes, but Johnson is quickly reversing and out of the way.

Same thing happens again soon after. Johnson reaches down and goes for a single leg, but Benavidez shakes him off.

Johnson trying to dart in and out while Benavidez’s strategy is to press forward with punches and kicks in bunches. As always Johnson is proving to be quite elusive though.

Benavidez looking to be aggressive again and then out of the blue Johnson lands a perfectly placed right hand that instantly knocks out Benavidez! He lands a few more punches to his grounded opponent to make absolutely sure before the ref can get in to call an end to the fight with 2.08mins on the clock.

Wow! I don’t think anyone would have predicted the fight ending this way. It’s been a long time since Johnson last finished a fight inside the distance, and Benavidez has never been stopped in his professional career until tonight.

Though he’s been the champion for quite some time now, this was the kind of emphatic victory Johnson needed to elevate him to the next level and what better place to do it than in a main event live in front of millions on FOX!
