Demian Maia Vs Matt Brown Set For UFC Fight Night 87

UFC welterweight veterans Demian Maia and Matt Brown have been booked to fight at UFC Fight Night 87 in Brazil on May 14th.

Maia is currently enjoying a four fight unbeaten stretch at 170lbs, the longest winning streak he’s experienced since his initial 5-0 run in the UFC when he signed up back in 2007.

Going back to his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu roots has been a key aspect of his recent run in which he’s defeated the likes of Ryan LaFlare, Neil Magny and most recently Gunnar Nelson who he comprehensively outgrappled at UFC 194 back in December to rise to No.5 in the divisional rankings.

One place behind him on the ladder is Brown who got back to winning ways against Tim Means last summer after suffering back-to-back losses to current champion Robbie Lawler and former title holder Johny Hendricks, though neither held the belt at the time.

Prior to that ‘The Immortal’ had racked up seven wins in a row and he still harbors a desire to fight for the title. To do so he’ll have to get past the in-form Maia which on paper looks like a difficult task, though Brown has a habit of upsetting the odds.

Maia Vs Brown will join the main card of UFC Fight Night 87 which is set to be headlined by a middleweight encounter between two leading contenders Vitor Belfort and Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza.
