Grizzled veteran Diego Sanchez will lock horns with up-and-comer Mickey Gall at UFC 235 on March 2nd in Las Vegas.
The welterweight bout was first suggested by Gall, who was initially discovered via Dana White on his ‘Looking For A Fight’ series, leading to him being brought in as CM Punk’s first opponent in the UFC.
Gall easily won that fight by submission and then moved on to defeat fellow ‘Looking For A Fight’ alum, Sage Northcutt. He then went on to lose a fight to Randy Brown, but has since bounced back with a swift submission victory over George Sullivan, after which he called out Sanchez.
As for Sanchez, he’s coming off a win over Craig White, which helped arrest an alarming slide that has seen him uncharacteristically KO’d in back-to-back fights last year – once at lightweight and once at welterweight.
The signs had been there for some time that Sanchez’s chin was finally deteriorating, including also being TKO’d for the first time in his career by Joe Lauzon back at UFC 200 in 2016, but never one to back down from a challenge, the 36-year-old Sanchez is continuing to fight on.
Sanchez Vs Gall joins a UFC 235 card that it still in development, but is likely to also feature a high-profile welterweight clash between Robbie Lawler and Ben Askren.
