A welterweight fight between Donald Cerrone and Jorge Masvidal has been targeted for the UFC On FOX 23 event at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado on January 28th.
It’s a fight that appears to please both fighters as Masvidal had been calling out Cerrone for some time, while ‘Cowboy’ had previously indicated that he was eager to fight on the Denver show.
The booking comes less than a week after Cerrone impressed again at welterweight with a third round head kick KO victory over Matt Brown at UFC 206 in Toronto.
The 33 year-old has been displaying some of the best form of his career since stepping up to 170lbs earlier this year, and so far has compiled a four-fight winning streak that also includes wins over Alex Oliveira, Patrick Cote and Rick Story that leaves him ranked No.5 in the weight class.
Masvidal also made the decision to step up to welterweight in the past 18 months, and so far he’s compiled a 3-2 record in the division and is coming off back-to-back victories over Ross Pearson and Jake Ellenberger.
UFC On FOX 23 is expected to be headlined by a woman’s bantamweight match-up between two of the divisions top contenders, Valentina Shevchenko (No.2) and Julianna Pena (No.3).
