A lightweight fight between Donald Cerrone and Justin Gaethje will headline UFC Fight Night 158 in Vancouver on September 14th.
The fight will instantly be earmarked by fight fans as a must-see encounter between two of the most consistently exciting stars on the UFC roster.
For Cerrone the fight comes after he saw a three-fight winning streak come to an end last time out when he was TKO’d due to a doctor’s stoppage after the second round by Tony Ferguson.
His wins prior to that had saw him armbar Mike Perry at welterweight, before dropping back down to lightweight to TKO Alexander Hernandez with a head kick and follow-up punches, then earn a decision victory over Al Iaquinta.
That leaves Cerrone ranked No.4 in the division, just one spot above Gaethje, who has been in typically violent form of late, having racked up impressive back-to-back first round knockout finishes against James Vick and Edson Barboza in the past year.
Before that Gaethje’s all-action style had appeared to be catching up with him, suffering the first two losses of his career with a knockout defeat against Eddie Alvarez being followed up by a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier, but his recent wins suggest that he still remains as dangerous as ever.
Cerrone vs. Gaethje is expected to headline a UFC Fight Night 158 card that will also feature Glover Teixeira vs. Nikita Krylov, Uriah Hall vs Antonio Carlos Junior, Marcin Tybura vs. Augusto Sakai and the return of Todd Duffee against Jeff Hughes.
