A lightweight bout between Erik Koch and Drew Dober has been announced for UFC 195 on January 2nd in Las Vegas.
Not so long ago was an exciting, up and coming star in the featherweight ranks who’d impressed in the WEC organization and then kicked off his UFC career with wins over Rafael Assuncao and Jonathan Brookins.
However, he’s since found the going tougher, suffering back-to-back losses to two of the divisions best, Ricardo Lamas and Dustin Poirier which resulted in a decision to move back to the lightweight division where he’d plied his trade much earlier in his career.
That move hasn’t quite paid of for the 26 year-old though as a first round TKO win over Rafaello Oliveira was followed by a first round TKO loss to Daron Cruickshank, meaning that Koch has now lost three of his last four fights.
Koch remains a very respectable 14-4 for his career overall though and he’s still young enough to bounce back and put this spell behind him, starting with what looks on paper to be a less difficult match-up against Dober.
Initially entering into the UFC via the TUF 18 reality show, Dober has struggled to make an impact in the promotion so far and currently has just one victory in five Octagon outings which mean this is a must-win fight for him if he wishes to avoid being shown the exit door.
UFC 195 will be headlined by a welterweight title fight between current champion Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit. So far Koch Vs Dober is the only other bout announced for the first event of 2016.
