Floyd Mayweather Jr announced on social media at the end of the week that he’s coming out of retirement in 2020 and a new report suggests that one of the two fights he’s looking to undertake in the coming year will be against a UFC fighter.
It’s believed that one of the fights ‘Money’ is targeting is a rematch with fellow boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao, having previously defeated him back in 2015.
However, though his current plans are believed to be “very fluid and could change with the wind,” his other opponent looks like being an as-yet-undecided star from the UFC’s roster, with the event seemingly being co-promoted with MMA’s leading promotion.
At this stage the details are very vague, but it’s understood that Mayweather’s camp are “preferably” looking for someone who has “impressed with stand-up striking skills,” inside the Octagon, and that it will be a boxing match.
Likely opponents could include the likes of a rematch with Conor McGregor, or a fight with current lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, while newly crowned ‘BMF’ champion Jorge Masvidal might be an option too.
As things stand Mayweather has earmarked May and September for his upcoming fights, by which time he will have turned 43-years-old, but again it’s quite possible that this could all change in the months to come.
