Frankie Edgar Vs Cub Swanson To Headline UFC Fight Night 57

A featherweight scrap between two of the featherweight division’s top talents Frankie Edgar and Cub Swanson has been announced as the main event for UFC Fight Night 57 on November 22nd in Texas.

Swanson is currently ranked No.2 in the world at 145lbs courtesy of an impressive six fight winning streak in the UFC that’s seen him take out the likes of Ross Pearson, Charles Oliveria and Dennis Siver via strikes, while last time out the former WEC veteran earned a unanimous decision victory over Jeremy Stephens in a ‘Fight Of The Night’ performance.

Just one place behind him at No.3 on the rankings is former UFC Lightweight champion Edgar who’s coming off his third and most dominant victory over BJ Penn following a stint as coach on TUF. Prior to that he notched up a ‘Fight Of The Night’ decision win against Charles Oliveira.

It’s an excellent match-up and it could well be that the winner here will go on to fight for the title against the winner of Jose Aldo Vs Chad Mendes II which takes place at UFC 179 next month.

Meanwhile, a significant 155lb clash between Bobby Green (No.7) and Edson Barboza (No.11) has also been scheduled for the same show and will serve as the co-main event of the evening.

Over the years I've watched the UFC develop into the powerhouse it is today, organizations like PRIDE, Strikeforce and WEC rise and fall, and Bellator emerge as a new force on the MMA landscape. Throughout it all I've remained captivated by the sport and I'm excited to cover what comes next here on MMA Insight.
