Freddie Roach: Holm Is A Good Boxer, But Rousey Will Destroy Her On The Mat

While MMA isn’t boxing coach Freddie Roach’s forte, the world famous trainer knows a thing or two about this weekend’s UFC 193 main event having followed Holly Holm’s decorated career in boxing and also having helped teach Ronda Rousey the ways of the sweet science early in her career.

Roach tells MMAfighting.com that a fight between the two on the feet could be competitive, but while he’s the first to admit he doesn’t understand the ground game, he’s under no illusion that Holm stands a chance if Rousey takes the fight to the canvas.

“[Rousey’s] not the best in the world [at boxing], but she’s good, she’s very competitive, she tries really hard,” Roach noted. “It’s probably not the best thing she does, she probably better at ground game, but again, she’s more experienced there. Her boxing is good, the girl she’s fighting is a good boxer also. When they stand up it will be a good fight but when it goes to the ground she’s going to destroy her.”

Meanwhile, Roach is currently working with another UFC superstar, Georges St. Pierre and has reaffirmed his belief that the former welterweight champion will return to the Octagon.

“Yes, I do,” Roach when Asked on The MMA Hour show whether he believed St Pierre will be back. “He’s so positive, so good, and it was the best three training sessions we’ve ever had.”

Roach also revealed that GSP’s six week ‘test’ camp will include live fights taking place behind closed doors at his Wild Card gym so they can confirm 100% whether the 34 year-old does indeed have the desire to fight again on the sport’s biggest stage.
