Gegard Mousasi was muscled out of his main event spot on the UFC Fight Night 83 card in London, England on February 27th opposite Michael Bisping when the promotion opted to go with Anderson Silva, but it’s now official that he will remain on the show with a new opponent.
Mousasi now occupies the co-main event spot where he’ll face Thales Leites, a solid bit of matchmaking under the circumstances as they are both neck and neck in the middleweight rankings at this moment in time at No.9 and No.10 respectively.
Mousasi is coming off a TKO loss to Uriah Hall back in Japan back in September which ended a two fight winning run in which he’d defeated Dan Henderson and Costas Philippou.
Leites is also looking to rebound after a loss to UFCN 83 headliner Bisping in Scotland in the summer, a bitter pill to swallow as it ended an eight fight unbeaten stretch including five wins in the Octagon.
While Mousasi Vs Leites has now been confirmed, UFC Fight Night 83 has lost another fight as Jimi Manuwa has picked up an undisclosed injury which has resulted in his recently announced fight with Nikita Krylov being scrapped from the card altogether.
