Gilbert Melendez Vs Diego Sanchez Rumored For This Fall

A fight between former Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez and TUF Season 1 winner Diego Sanchez is rumored to be in the UFC’s plans for this fall season.

Melendez was unsuccessful in his bid to take the UFC lightweight title from Ben Henderson earlier this year, but it was a close fight and he’s now plotting a new course for the summit of the 155lb weight class and that appears to go through Sanchez.

Sanchez would like to get another title shot himself after coming up short against BJ Penn in his first stint at lightweight back in 2009.   After a spell at welterweight he moved back down to 155lbs in March and started his campaign with a split decision victory over Takanori Gomi.

This looks like a good match-up on paper and a win would put either man in a strong position in the division.

There’s no official date for this bout as of yet, but it’s expected to land either in October or November.
