Glover Teixeira sealed the No.1 contender spot in the UFC’s light-heavyweight division last night at UFC Fight Night 28 with his first round TKO victory over Ryan Bader.
The UFC’s Marshall Zelaznik confirmed at the post-fight press conference in Brazil that Teixeira would be next in line which means he’ll face the winner of UFC 165’s headliner later this month which pits current champion Jon Jones against Alexander Gustafsson.
Teixeira’s gone a five fight winning streak in the UFC to earn his spot and is now unbeaten in his last 20 fights, dating back to 2006.
Last night we saw the Brazilian having to dig deep after being rocked twice in the early stages of his fight with Bader, and that could raise doubts about whether he’ll be able to withstand the kind of offense that someone like Jones would be unleashing on him if they were to meet in the Octagon.
One thing’s for sure though, Teixeira has serious power, he’s extremely dangerous even when he’s hurt and he has the killer instinct so it’d be a fun fight.
