Gregory Rodrigues beat Anthony Hernandez by unanimous decision in the main event of UFC Fight Night 285 on Saturday night and now he wants to looking to fight a highly ranked former champion next.
“Dricus du Plessis, where are you, man?” Rodrigues said after beating Hernandez in Sacremento. “I want you. Let’s go. No. 1 contender to fight for the belt. Dricus du Plessis, I want you.”
It’s an ambitious call from ‘Robocop’, who was ranked No.10 heading into this past weekend’s event, to call for the current No.2 contender, but the 34-year-old is currently riding the momentum of a four-fight winning streak and now wants to aim for the top talents in the division.
And that means that not only is DDP in his sights, but also another ex-champ Khamzat Chimaev too, who is the current No.1 cranked contender at 185lbs.
“Why I’m going to look back?” Rodrigues said at the post-fight presser. “I just beat the No. 6 in the rankings, tough guy, and I want to go forward. I think Dricus is a good fight or even Khamzat [Chimaev], I don’t know.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen with the division, but the division is changing and I want my place right there.”
