UFC Fight Night 285 Bonus Awards

UFC Fight Night 285 Bonus Awards

Following UFC Fight Night 285 the recipients of the evening’s $100,000 bonus awards were announced.

Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was the main event clash between Gregory Rodrigues and Anthony Hernandez, which went all the way to the final bell after five hard-fought rounds.

As usual Hernandez set out his stall to push a hard pace from start to finish, but his attempts to get the fight to the mat were repeatedly denied by Rodrigues’ sturdy takedown defense, forcing him to implement a grinding clinch game punctuated by the occasional hard elbow strike.

There were also numerous striking exchanges along the way too though, and while both men were able to land big at times, it was ‘Robocop’ who got the better of it, particularly with his repeated calf kicks that soon took a toll and dropped ‘Fluffy’ numerous times. However, Hernandez continued to battle on regardless, and Rodrigues showed impressive cardio to keep up with him, eventually getting the better of the final round to secure a unanimous decision victory (48-47 x2, 49-46).

Meanwhile, MarQuel Mederos got the better of an entertaining scrap with Mason Jones on the main card to earn one of two ‘Performance Of The night’ awards.

Both men had their moments in the first round as Mederos looked to match Jones early aggression. In the second round Jones looked to impose his will further as he landed big shots, but then Mederos managed to rock him with a big elbow. Jones tried to fight through it, but Mederos found a home for more punishing elbows that had his opponent’s legs buckling against the cage for a 2nd round TKO finish.

Also earning a performance award was Carli Judice who continued to enhance her reputation as a finisher after she quickly got the better of the striking action against Jiesla Chaves, then crumpled her to the canvas with a front kick to the body for a TKO finish just 99 seconds into the opening round.
